THE BEACH
Shells crackle as I walk over the sandy shore
The water washes over my skin
As the tide comes in, Mother Nature's treasures
Wash up onto the beach.
A hermit crab scuttles over my feet
I see the waves destroy a sand castle
A dolphin leaps out of the water
I wonder how it jumps so high
As the sun sets, I realize
how beautiful this other place is from where I live
I hear my name called
I take one last look and rush inside.
RAIN
Sparkling orbs,
Drifting down with the breeze
Liquid silver
Making life beautiful.

Daniel
By Shirley Roe
Daniel was here so long ago
He wrote a verse and made it so
He journeyed far, he journeyed wide
Searching for what was inside
And then he died so long ago
He did not find, he did not know.
HER RUBY RED DRESS
It was her very first prom.
We watched in awe, as she walked down the steps.
Our daughter was all grown up in her ruby red dress.
Her graceful steps fluttered the chiffon length gown.
The sparkling tiny sequins illuminated her smile.
Her long black wavy hair lay perfect down her back.
The strapless tapered dress showed a little innocence,
And the cross that we gave her draped her slim neck.
Her father held her hand in his nervous palm.
Sweetheart, you are as pretty as your mom when we met.
A tear trickled down my rosy cheek.
As we waited for her date to arrive,
I slipped a note into her hand and kissed her cheek.
SWEETHEART,
IT’S YOUR NIGHT FOR A FANCY DRESS, AN INVITATION AND PRETTY FLOWERS
FROM A NICE AND POLITE YOUNG MAN. IT’S YOUR NIGHT FOR LOTS OF FUN AND
DREAMING THAT THIS STARRY NIGHT WILL LAST FOREVER. IT WILL, TRUST ME.
DAD, YOUR FAMILY, AND I PRAY THAT YOU WILL COME HOME SAFE.
WE ASK THE LORD TO WATCH OVER YOU, AS YOU ENJOY ONE OF THE BEST
AND MOST MEMORABLE NIGHTS OF YOUR LIFE. PROM NIGHT IS YOUR NIGHT.
HAVE RESPECT FOR YOURSELF. DON’T BE TOO LATE.
WE LOVE YOU.
